Mann Celebrates a New Building
(Missed any of the fun? Check out the slideshow!)
As the front doors of the renovated Mann Library building opened on August 19, Mann Library began celebrating its transformation into a 21st century research facility with an impromptu parade followed by a community Open House on August 24, featuring tours, food by the new Manndible café off of the Mann lobby, raffles, and performances by The Chordials, Last Call, and Nothing But Treble.
On Sept. 9th, an inaugural art show in the new Mann Library gallery opened with an installation by Jeni Wightman, Visualizing Meaning: Copying the Masters. Incorporating favorite visual representations of data submitted by Cornell faculty from across the university, Wightman's show refashioned everyday household items such as blankets and rocking chairs to create a playful dialogue between the lived and the charted experience of scientific knowledge. On Tuesday, September 18th, Cornell professor of art Buzz Spector introduced Ms. Wightman and her work at an opening reception in the new gallery space. More information is available on Ms. Wightman's Visualizing Meaning website and in a short film about Ms. Wightman and her project, hosted on CornellCast.
