Renaissance
For phase 2—the comprehensive rehabilitation of the adjoining original building—architect Beyhan Karahan / BKAA assumed project leadership to conceive a renovation that removed the existing nine-tier stack structure, constructed a central atrium, and re-configured the original spaces. This design provided a seamless transition between the new addition and the original building to create a world-class 250,000 square-foot library and hortorium. Project funding again derived from the SUNY Construction Fund.
In fall 2003, construction equipment rolled on-site to begin the project, and by winter, renovation work on the original building moved into full gear. This fall, the much anticipated renaissance of this graceful old building as a modern day center for information, learning and intellectual exchange will be complete.
