Time before Mann

Before Mann’s construction, university leaders, faculty and students alike lamented the lack of a central library for the College of Agriculture and its affiliated School of Home Economics. Research resources—books, journals, reports and other publication series—were either stacked in the cramped, dark ground floor of old Stone Hall, crammed into overflow storage space in the attics and basements of various buildings around the Ag Quad, or scattered across numerous smaller departmental libraries around the quad and Martha van Rensselaer Hall. Getting to these resources was haphazard and time-consuming.
